Makes from the Turkish tradition
The Trabzon Hasırı is worked as a fine mesh and falls softly around the wrist. Burma bangles are twisted and catch the light in stripes. Gündoğdu models show a strong geometric pattern and look solid. Alongside these are plain bangles that combine with anything, and hinged cuffs with a clip fastening that are easier to put on than closed bangles.
Width, weight and combining
Narrow bangles from about five millimetres look delicate and stack well – three to seven is the classic number. Wide models from fifteen millimetres stand on their own. Weight follows the make: a woven bangle is noticeably heavier than a hollow one of the same width. We weigh every piece in front of you and explain exactly what you are holding.
Size, occasion and care
What matters is the inner diameter, not the wrist circumference: the bangle has to pass over the ball of the hand. Our bangle size guide includes a template to print. Bangles are the classic gift at the takı ceremony and at festivals. Take them off for sport and housework; 22 carat is soft and marks more readily than 585.
